For MAN Energy Solutions Matrisk developed a quantitative risk analysis to assess the operational safety of motors with regard to component fatigue.
The aim of the project was the consistent and reproducible determination of failure probabilities and the resulting risks across the entire life cycle. For this purpose, a model-based approach was developed that integrates mechanical stresses, material behavior, and uncertainties.
The focus was on combining probabilistic load models with structural-mechanical resistance models and translating local failure mechanisms into a system assessment. Additionally, available operational and field data were incorporated to ensure a holistic consideration of relevant failure modes.
The project provides a robust methodological basis for data-driven safety assessments and supports informed decisions in development, operation and verification.
