About Us
Matrisk was founded in 2004 and is now owned by four partners. Three of them are professors at universities in Europe. All partners are internationally active in research and are among the leading experts in their field.
We know that no body of experience is complete. That's why we draw on a global network of specialized experts. This allows us to combine in-depth knowledge with practical solutions. We work with proven procedures and recognized methods.
Our approach
We begin every collaboration with a central question: What exactly needs to be answered? Together with you, we clarify the crucial points. Only then do we select the appropriate methods and tools: efficient, targeted, and tailored to your needs.
Our team
Matthias Schubert, Ph.D.
Managing Director
Matthias Schubert has been Managing Director of Matrisk GmbH since 2009 and is responsible for both strategic and operational management. Previously, he was a research associate at ETH Zurich in the Risk and Safety in Engineering group, focusing on risk analysis, statistical methods, and time series analysis.
He studied civil engineering at RWTH Aachen University and received his doctorate from ETH Zurich. At Matrisk, he led numerous projects as well as several publicly funded research projects.
His professional focus lies in risk assessment and decision analysis of technical systems, including in the areas of natural hazards, tunnels, industry, offshore, as well as in the automotive and aviation industries.
Matthias Schubert has been a board member since 2017. JCSS, since 2025 President of the SIA Standards Commission 260, member of working groups of the ECSS and also in teaching at the ETH Zurich and Federal Fiscal Court employed.
Paul-Remo Wagner, Ph.D.
Paul-Remo Wagner has been working as an expert for risk and reliability modeling at Matrisk GmbH since 2022. In this role, he has implemented numerous projects in the field of quantitative risk analysis and the modeling of complex systems. He uses advanced modeling approaches and tools, including risk graphs as well as modern methods for uncertainty quantification and probabilistic analysis.
He also oversees several software projects. His responsibilities include both the design and implementation of applications, including cloud-based architectures, as well as the setup and maintenance of CI/CD pipelines.
Paul-Remo Wagner received his doctorate in 2021 from the ETH Zurich at the Chair of RSUQ. As part of his dissertation, he dealt with the development of surrogate models for the efficient analysis of complex systems under uncertainty.
Adéla Hlobilová, Ph.D.
Adéla Hlobilová has been part of Matrisk since September 2025 and works as a Risk and Reliability Engineer. She received her PhD in 2020 from the Czech Technical University in Prague (CTU), where her research focused on reliability-based design optimization using approximation methods.
After completing her doctorate, she worked for two years as a research assistant at the Czech Academy of Sciences (CAS), focusing on image analysis of data from computational microtomography. She then spent three years as a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Risk, Security and Uncertainty Quantification (RSUQ) at ETH Zurich, where she contributed to the development of the software. UQLab and UQ[py]Lab contributed and also developed benchmarks for replacement and machine learning models.
Before her doctoral studies, Adéla studied civil engineering and researched optimization methods applied to various engineering problems.
Claudia Schuler
Claudia Schuler has been supporting Matrisk GmbH as a fiduciary expert since 2015 in all administrative matters. Her many years of experience in the areas of accounting, management and tax consulting relieve the organization and significantly simplify internal processes.
Prof. Michael Havbro Faber, Ph.D.
Michael Havbro Faber, co-founder of Matrisk, is a professor of risk-based decision-making in engineering at Aalborg University, Denmark. Prior to his current academic position, he was head of the Department of Civil Engineering at DTU, Denmark, and a full professor at ETH Zurich.
In addition to his academic career, he has extensive practical experience in the application of methods of structural reliability theory, load analysis, structural design, assessment of existing structures and risk-based inspection and maintenance planning in the fields of civil engineering, offshore engineering and aviation.
Prof. Jochen Koehler, Ph.D.
Jochen Köhler has been working for Matrisk since 2007 and became a partner in 2008. He has great expertise and experience with structural reliability analysis and risk analysis in civil engineering. In addition to his employment at Matrisk, Jochen Köhler worked as a research assistant and postdoc at ETH Zurich. He has been a professor at the NTNU in Trondheim, Norway since 2012.
Prof. Daniel Straub, Ph.D.
Daniel Straub is a co-founder of Matrisk GmbH and a leading expert in engineering system health assessments and natural hazard risk analysis and management. Daniel Straub is a professor at TU Munich, where he leads the Engineering Risk Analysis Group.
